We continue with olive tree legends; today we are going to talk about the olive tree trunk; Van Gogh was fascinated by it, and so was our character today.

The legend tells: 

One afternoon in the year 1590, an elderly traveler appeared at the doors of a farmhouse near the Puente de la Sierra (according to some versions, it happened at the so-called Casería de Jesús, although other versions place it in a farmhouse that was near La Merced and could well be on the current Calle de Jesús). He was exhausted and about to collapse and humbly asked for shelter to spend the night.

The family took pity on the poor old man and did not hesitate to take him into their home. While they were sharing their dinner with him, the stranger noticed a large olive tree trunk they used as a bench and exclaimed: "What a good Nazarene would come from there!"

He asked the family to give it to him, as he wished to carve an image of Jesus to thank them for their hospitality, since, as he told them, he was very skilled at woodworking.

The family agreed, a few days passed, and seeing that the old man did not come out, they entered the room and found the door open. They entered the room with fear and were left speechless to find the figure of Jesus barely covered by a rough shroud. 

The couple looked for the elderly traveler, but they could not find him anywhere. What they did find was a note written by him that said: "Through this image, love Him with all your heart, in the certainty that He will never abandon you."

The figure achieved great fame and there were many pilgrimages to the farmhouse to contemplate the magnificent work. Today it continues to be highly venerated:
